Easington, County Durham

Compulsory Basic Training (C.B.T.)

C.B.T. is the bare minimum that the law requires for a motorcyclist to use the public roads.

If you are 16 years of age, you are only allowed to ride a moped which is 49cc and under and restricted to a speed of 50kmh. Once you reach the age of 17 years of age you can then ride a 125cc/14.6 b.h.p. motorcycle (maximum).

The vehicle must display front and rear L-plates and you are inhibited from carrying pillion passengers and using motorways.

If you are 17 years and over you are able to carry out your C.B.T. on a 125cc/14.6bhp motorcycle and sit a motorcycle practical test.

On successful completion of the C.B.T. a DL196 certificate of completion will be issued to you. This entitles you to ride unaccompanied on public roads, for a period of two years. Thereafter, a further C.B.T. should be undertaken, unless of course you have passed a practical test with the Driving Standard Agency (D.S.A.).

We can teach a total of 4 C.B.T. students per day so you and your friends can enjoy learning together. HONDA_CBR600RR

For a friendly and professional approach to training, in a relaxed atmosphere. This is the place for you to learn.

The Theory Test

The D.S.A. require that you to sit and pass a theory test before they will allow you book and sit a motorcycle practical test.

You don't have to pass the theory test in order to take lessons, just have a valid DL 196 (see C.B.T.).

The theory test has a life two years. marauder

The Practical Test

The motorcycle practical test is conducted and governed by the D.S.A.

The practical test involves all aspects of riding country roads, town riding, dual carriageways and slow speed maneuvers.

Full Motorcycle Licence

A full motorcycle licence is issued on successful completion of a practical test, conducted by the Driving Standard Agency (D.S.A.).

In order to sit a full motorcycle practical test, a DL 196 must be  obtained (see C.B.T.), and a theory pass certificate.  Lessons in preparation for the practical test can start once a DL 196 is in your possession.

The type of test you can take depends upon your age. If you are between the ages of 17 and 20 years you can only take the Standard Motorcycle Test.

Both the standard motorcycle test and lessons are conducted on a 125cc motorcycle.  When you have successfully passed your test you will have a restricted licence for a period of 2 years. Thereafter the restriction expires and you will have a full motorcycle licence. The restriction will allow you to ride any size motorcycle which is restricted to a power output of no more that 33 b.h.p.

If you are 21 years of age and over, you can do the large bike test. You will have lessons on a bike with a minimum of 46.6 b.h.p. and you will sit your test on the same vehicle. Successful completion of the practical test entitles you to a full  unrestricted licence, enabling to ride any bike you wish!
